Math Calculator FAQs
Everything you need to know about math calculations
How do you calculate percentage of a number?
To calculate a percentage of a number, multiply the number by the percentage divided by 100. For example, 20% of 150 is 150 ร (20 รท 100) = 150 ร 0.2 = 30. Use our Percentage Calculator for instant results on percentages, including percentage change and percentage of totals.
How do you calculate percentage increase?
Percentage increase is calculated as: ((new value - original value) รท original value) ร 100. For example, if a value increases from 100 to 150: ((150 - 100) รท 100) ร 100 = 50% increase. Our Percentage Increase Calculator also handles decreases and can calculate compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over multiple years.
How do you simplify fractions?
To simplify a fraction, divide both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For example, 12/18 has a GCD of 6, so 12 รท 6 = 2 and 18 รท 6 = 3, making the simplified fraction 2/3. Our Fraction Calculator handles addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and simplification instantly.
How is GPA calculated?
GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated by converting each grade to a point value (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.), multiplying by the course credits, summing these values, and dividing by total credits. Our Grade Calculator supports letter grades, percentages, GPA points, and custom grading scales โ perfect for students tracking academic performance.
How do you calculate mean, median, and mode?
Mean is the average (sum รท count). Median is the middle value when sorted. Mode is the most frequent value. For the dataset 2, 3, 5, 5, 7: mean = 4.4, median = 5, mode = 5. Our Statistics Calculator computes all three plus standard deviation, variance, and range instantly.
How do you calculate discounts and sale prices?
To calculate the sale price after a discount: multiply the original price by (1 - discount percentage รท 100). For a $100 item at 25% off: $100 ร 0.75 = $75. Our Discount Calculator also handles multiple discounts and displays total savings for better shopping decisions.
How do you split a bill with tip?
First, calculate the tip amount (bill ร tip percentage). Add it to the bill, then divide by the number of people. For a $60 bill with 18% tip split among 3 people: tip = $10.80, total = $70.80, each pays $23.60. Our Tip Calculator handles percentage and fixed tips with any number of people.
