Health Calculator FAQs
Everything you need to know about health and fitness calculations
What is BMI and how is it calculated?
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. It is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared (kg/m²). For example, a person weighing 70 kg at 1.75m tall has a BMI of 22.9. Our BMI Calculator provides instant results with WHO-standard health classifications.
What is BMR and why does it matter?
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest just to maintain vital functions like breathing, circulation, and cell production. It accounts for 60-75% of your daily calorie burn. Knowing your BMR helps you set accurate calorie targets for weight loss, gain, or maintenance. Our BMR Calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation.
What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?
BMR is your calorie burn at rest — what you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day. TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) adds all activities on top: walking, exercise, digestion, even fidgeting. TDEE = BMR × activity multiplier (1.2 for sedentary up to 1.9 for very active). Use our TDEE Calculator to plan your calorie intake for weight goals.
How much water should I drink per day?
General guidelines suggest 3.7 liters for men and 2.7 liters for women (including water from food). However, optimal intake depends on your weight, activity level, and climate. Our Water Intake Calculator personalizes your recommendation based on your specific factors.
How is body fat percentage measured?
Our Body Fat Calculator uses the US Navy method, which takes circumference measurements (neck, waist, and hips for women; neck and waist for men). It provides an accurate estimate without expensive equipment. We also show your body fat category and healthy ranges based on age and gender.
What is a healthy BMI range?
According to WHO standards: below 18.5 is underweight, 18.5-24.9 is normal weight, 25.0-29.9 is overweight, and 30.0+ is obese. However, BMI doesn't account for muscle mass. Athletes may have a high BMI but low body fat. Use our Health Dashboard for a more complete picture combining BMI, BMR, and body fat.
